It’s that time of year where Cigar Aficionado and numerous other cigar media outlets release their Top 25 lists. I have always said that these lists are important and an effective way to highlight some of the best cigars the industry has to offer. A few of these lists can really launch a brand or cigar maker and even save a struggling manufacturer. For the past few years during the Top 25 Season, we have been “opening our books” to the public and list Corona Cigar Company’s Top 25 cigars of 2020 based on the most important factor of all...actual sales. But first, there are some important factors to consider for 2020. During the pandemic our retail stores were closed for a month and our cigar bars were closed for several months. However, demand for cigars has been outstanding throughout this whole pandemic. I’m sure a lot of people were working from home while enjoying a cigar in their new outdoor office or man cave. Many people were buying cigars “to go” and we saw a huge increase in our CoronaCigar.com online sales. Once Florida Governor DeSantis reopened our economy, our brick and mortar sales recovered quickly except for two important categories. - Business travelers and convention businesses is still non existent in Orlando and Tampa’s convention centers. Tourists are returning to the area but at a much lower pace and we have no international travelers visiting any of our stores.
- Our Downtown Orlando location is still feeling the effects of what I call the urban flight of 2020. People that were working in offices downtown are still working from home and the civil unrest and protests throughout the summer have made some people nervous about going into the urban core of major cities.
However with all these disruptions in the market place, Corona Cigar’s overall cigar sales for 2020 were higher than the previous year.
