New Arrivals: Montecristo, AJ Fernandez, & Archetype | $50+ SHIPS FREE!

With a name like Montecristo Epic Craft Cured Cigars, you would expect this brand to be something special, and you would be correct. Created by the famed Plasencia family, in cooperation with Altadis U.S.A., this cigar brand is a continuation of the Montecristo Epic line, a line first created in 2011. The newest cigar holds true to the excellence of its lineage.
However, it also breaks with tradition in two rather intriguing ways. First, the original Montecristo Epic was a Dominican cigar. This new Epic, however, is fully Nicaraguan, from the filler to binding, and everything in-between. The other way it breaks with tradition is how it is crafted. The fermentation process involved smaller pilones than those that are normally used, which allowed the flavors of the components to blend more harmoniously.
Given the result, this was clearly a good decision by the Plasencia family. These medium to full-bodied sticks have notes of chocolate, spice, and espresso mixed throughout the sweet tobacco. It is a decadent blend that will tickle the taste buds of even the most sophisticated pallet.
Cigar aficionados that are looking for something truly original will love the Montecristo Epic Craft Cured Cigar. It is a rare stick that feels more like it was grown organically as a cigar, rather than pieced together from separate components.

For cigar smokers, there is a simple rule. If AJ Fernandez makes a new cigar, it is going to be outstanding. The New World Puro Especial does not break that rule. Crafted as an expression of Nicaragua's Estelí region, this cigar is a blend of tobacco exclusively cultivated from that region. In total, the New World Puro Especial includes tobacco from four different farms in the region, all of which have been aged 3 - 5 years.
With such a strong heritage, you would assume that the flavor of this cigar would be nothing less than magnificent, and you would be correct. The complex taste blend includes notes of almonds, peppers, hickory, and minerals, and eventually reveals an unexpected sweetness as you make your way to the end of the stick. The biggest surprise, though, given pas endeavors by AJ Fernandez is that the cigar is of only moderate strength, rather than the full strength sticks he is famous for.
However, Fernandez easily proves that strength does not define quality. It may be milder than his fans expect from him, but the New World Puro Especial does honor to the Estelí region is commemorates. Available as a Robusto, Short Churchill, or Toro, this cigar is a good daily smoke that deserves a shelf to itself in your closet.

This new cigar from Archetype is quite intimidating at first glance; the dark wrapper and deep red cigar band. The Axis Mundi comes jam packed with an Indonesian Sumatra Binder, Nicaraguan Habano fillers, and a dark and mysterious Ecuadorian Habano wrapper to hold everything together. Cigar Aficionado rated this cigar a 93 and placed it at #13 of their Top 25 Cigars of 2017 List. If that isn't enough to get you to want to try this cigar then we don't know what is.
