Oliva Serie V Melanio

Leave it to the masterminds at Oliva to make sure their cigar made a splash when it was brought in to local cigar shops. It has an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, with some extra Jalapa Valley ligero in the filler.

The combination of tobaccos compared to the regular Serie V makes for a stronger and more flavorful cigar. The Melanio starts with a kick of spice that stays constant through the cigar, occasionally in unison with notes of wood and nuts that are dispersed evenly through the cigar. The Melanio goes from medium bodied up to full bodied half way through, despite being stronger it has the smoothness that everyone knows and loves from the original Serie V.

Be sure to pick this one up here as it has quickly become a fan favorite since it's release.

San Lotano Oval Maduro Review

The San Lotano Oval is an excellent cigar, and the maduro wrapper meets those expectations. The balanced elegance of the original Oval paired with a delicious Maduro wrapper makes one excellent cigar.  The binder and filler are the same as the original, having Nicaraguan and Honduran tobacco, and a secret blend of AJ’s as well.

The original Oval wrapper is replaced with this Ecuadorian Habano Maduro wrapper.  This adds a bit of strength to the cigar, starting at medium and ending near medium-full.  The flavor profile on the Oval Maduro couldn't be any better, with strong notes of pepper throughout the entire cigar, there are also hints of espresso adding a complexity that makes this cigar a real treat.  The Oval Maduro is consistent in each stick, and definitely does not disappoint.

CLE Cuarenta

Christian Eiroa's CLE Cuarenta is a classically rolled cigar from Honduras. The name Cuarenta means 40 in Spanish, as the cigar was released on Christian's 40th birthday, July 5th of last year. The wrapper is a Habano seed, but little else is known about the binder and filler. At the $5 price point it's hard to imagine it is a vintage cigar, as the date on the band is the roll date, not the harvest date of the tobacco. It seems as though CLE has pulled this off.

The Cuarenta is a mild-medium bodied cigar that builds to a solid medium at the halfway point. The initial flavor was that of wood, almost a cedar flavor, with a hint of spice. These flavors subsided and were replaced with a light cocoa flavor that still had some spice when rolled.

Davidoff Gold Band

Corona has gotten the Davidoff Gold Band Award back in stock!  These cigars are the cream of the crop when it comes to medium bodied limited edition cigars.  Boasting a Dominican Criollo wrapper, Peruvian binder, and San Vicente and Piloto fillers, then aged for 5 years, this cigar is packed with flavor.  Starting off with some sweet spice, the flavor changes throughout the entire cigar.  The middle lessens in spice and a creamy cedar flavor comes in, while the last third brings back a bit of spice through the nose with notes of cocoa.  The Gold Band Award has an amazing draw with a near perfect burn, and builds up to a beefy medium bodied as you progress through the cigar.  This is definitely a perfect cigar for any Davidoff smoker, or anyone who enjoys a good medium bodied full flavored smoke.

EPC Inch

The EPC Inch cigar is from the infamous big ring gauge cigar maker Ernesto Carillo. Offered with a Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro or Ecuador Sumatra natural wrapper, they range from medium to medium-full in body, but are slam packed with flavor.

The maduro is a delicious treat. With hints of chocolate and coffee mixing to create a mocha taste through the roll, it will leaving you waiting for that next puff.

The natural boasts more earthy flavors than its maduro counterpart. The smell of leather combined with a sweet wood taste make this cigar bring back more rustic feelings while smoking. A traditional cigar in an untraditional size, this is definitely worth trying whether you want maduro or natural.

Hawaiian Vintage Cigar

The Hawaiian Vintage is a masterpiece of a cigar. The filler is Hawaiian grown while the binder and wrapper are Nicaraguan.  This Hawaiian cigar brings unique flavor with traditional twists. Expertly rolled in Nicaragua, then aged for several years. Medium bodied from start to finish, it is very smooth even through the roll. The flavors are earthy with hints of nuts and are extremely consistent throughout the entire cigar. The unique earthy flavors are definitely worth mentioning and are quite pleasant. Overall the Hawaiian Vintage has a great consistent flavor profile that lends to it smoking phenomenally.

The Graycliff Silver

The Graycliff Silver was my smoke for the day. It is Graycliff's newest cigar, and is an intricate addition to their lines. The combination of flavor and strength in this cigar is something worth mentioning. Hand rolled in Nassau, with tobacco aged at least five years, the Silver is bound to be a hot commodity.

The tobaccos inside include Costa Rican, Honduran, and Nicaraguan filler while the wrapper and binder are both Ecuadorian. The Silver is medium bodied, slowly building to medium-full as it gets towards the end. The flavor on the Silver tastes of coffee at the start, and when rolled adds cedar mixed with a light floral note. The main flavor changes to wood with a hint of spice in the last third.

Overall the Silver was extremely enjoyable and well rounded, something Graycliff has been known for. Pick them up here.

La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor Reserva Review

The Mi Amor line from La Aroma de Cuba has been boasted as one of the best cigars in the world, namely 2011's number 2 spot with the Belicoso size.  They have introduced a new beauty late last year called the Mi Amor Reserva.  With a Mexican oscuro wrapper and nicaraguan filler and finder, all aged longer than the original Mi Amor, the Reserva comes packing a punch.  Coming in a light box press shape, the construction is near flawless.

The Reserva starts off medium bodied but quickly ramps up to medium-full bodied.  The flavors dominant throughout are of a sweet earthiness.  There's a hint of cedar at the start, which gives way to an almost chocolate flavor that is extremely enjoyable.  There is a good consistent draw throughout the cigar, and a very even burn line.  For the price point this cigar is a great choice for the medium to full bodied range with a fantastic flavor profile.

Tatuaje Cojonu 2012

The Cojonu 2012 is Tatuaje’s newest cigar. But here is the surprise, it has been released in 3 different wrappers! Talk about a treat for any palate. The three wrappers are a Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro, Ecuadorian Sumatra, and a Habano. The first two were released in the limited edition books, while the Habano was a IPCPR 2012 release. Now you can pick which one is your favorite, and buy a box of 25 of them.

All three cigars are limited production cigars, boxed pressed 6.5 x 52 toro. Like all of the previous Cojonu cigars, the 2012’s live up to the medium-full to full bodied and full flavored niche they were made to fill. Each blend has a unique flavor profile, and in their price range it is hard to find full bodied cigars with such flavor and smoothness. Whether you like a hint of creamy and spicy (Sumatra), cocoa and cold espresso (Broadleaf), or bittersweet and cinnamon (Habano), there is definitely a cigar for any full bodied cigar lovers out of the three.

The Nat Sherman Timeless is a new line from an iconic brand. Boasting the number 10 cigar of 2012, it’s loaded with flavor and bound to not disappoint. In a wonderful pairing of Matasa, the makers of Quesada cigars, Nat Sherman has created a delicious medium bodied cigar that has a light spice to it. Other flavors present through the retro-hale are coffee, vanilla and cedar.

La Flor Dominicana Oro

The La Flor Dominicana Oro is the newest in an arsenal full of powerhouses from LFD. With great power comes great flavors in this cigar. When one thinks of power typically complexity and smoothness are not involved, but that is not case with the Oro.

The main tasting notes are of leather with a white pepper spice. Occasionally a hint of floral and citrus waft in during a retro hale. Boasting a nice smooth finish with a full flavored and bodied smoke, this cigar is sure to please veterans and newcomers for LFD.
